Ranganathaswamy Temple Srirangam Tiruchirapalli Tamil Nadu India

Ranganatha Swamy Temple in Srirangam Tamil Nadu, one of India's largest temple complexes. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu

Ranganathaswamy Temple, dedicated to Ranganatha (a manifestation of Vishnu), is situated in Srirangam, Tiruchirapalli, Tamil Nadu, India. Built in the Dravidian architectural style, this temple is celebrated by the Tamil poet-saints known as the Alvars in their revered text, the Naalayira Divya Prabhandam. It holds the prestigious title of being the foremost among the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Vishnu.

As the largest temple complex in India and one of the most expansive religious sites globally, the Srirangam temple has undergone renovations, expansions, and reconstructions over the centuries, maintaining its status as a living temple. The most recent addition is the outer tower, which stands at approximately 73 meters (240 feet) and was completed in 1987.

Often recognized as the largest functioning Hindu temple worldwide, it is surpassed in size only by Angkor Wat, the largest existing temple. The temple actively serves as a Hindu place of worship and adheres to the Tenkalai tradition of Sri Vaishnavism. Its annual 21-day festival, held during the Tamil month of Margali (December–January), draws around 1 million visitors.

Jyestabishekam, the inaugural anointing ceremony, is a three-day festival celebrated at the temple during the Tamil month of Aani (June–July). Each day features the deities dressed in distinct kavacham or armours after the ceremonial removal of the golden armour.
